THCA Seminar: Photon mass and astronomical observations

Thursday,13:30, May 22, 2014. Lecture Hall, third floor,New Science Building(理科楼) Title: Photon mass and astronomical observations Speaker: Dr. Qian Lei (NAOC) Abstract: Null experiments in physics is not as exciting as discovery experiments, however, they are very important for fundamental physics.
Theoretically, a photon should have a zero rest mass, which has be tested by various experiments with improving upper limits. Most of these experiments was performed in the lab. The photon rest mass can also be constrained by astronomical observations, which provide another view point. To constrain photon mass with light bending in gravitational field, lower frequencies, higher angular resolution are needed.
